Jon Shugart, CEO of Book Profits, obtained his Bachelor of Science in mathematics with honors from North Georgia College & University. Mr. Shugart received his Masters of Education Leadership from the University of Southern Mississippi. However, after teaching high school mathematics for four years, Mr. Shugart caught the technology bug and enrolled at the Georgia Institute of Technology to study Computer Science in the year 2000. It was that decision that has led him down the path he is currently on.
Over the past 19 years, Jon Shugart has followed his passion for technology and entrepreneurship and he has built several multi-million dollar businesses from scratch along the way. But more important to him than just the revenue is that the they have helped improve the quality of their customers' lives.
Whether it was through marketing automation or the use of big data, Mr. Shugart has tackled problems that very few others have gone after solving. However, that is what gets him excited the most, and the more difficult the challenge, the more ready he is to jump in with both feet and get to work to solve it.
One of his first experiences in solving big problems came early on in his career when he and two other developers were given the challenge to build a software system that would predict the routes that video conference packets would take through a network in the future to ensure the video quality of the call would be achieved. This was a complex, multi-variable type problem that had to take into account the entire structure of the existing network, what other calls were already scheduled during that time and what equipment would be used for the calls. He, along with three others, were awarded a Patent on the technology they built, and both the patent and technology were ultimately purchased by Polycom, Inc.
Fresh off that win, Mr. Shugart embarked on a journey to build his own technology business, and ultimately found himself fascinated with the online advertising and marketing world. In 2008, he began building what would ultimately become a product called Keyword Rockstar, which could automate the entire process of keyword research and Google PPC ad campaign creation with the unique twist of auto-generating image ads to use in the campaigns. This one unique twist of auto-generating image ads allowed advertisers to reduce their ppc cost by 20%, to as high as 97%, and was a huge success in the marketplace. That product reached a milestone of over one million dollars in sales within the first 6 months of launching.
Since that first product, Mr. Shugart has gone on to launch several more software products over the last 9 years, with the most recent one focused on the used book market.
With the power of Amazon and the ability for anyone to sell on their platform, Mr. Shugart and his partner, Luke Sample, saw a great opportunity to create software to help others improve their sales, or even start from scratch, and create a thriving business selling used books. Since 2016, he has been laser focused on building the best software and community for used book sellers on Amazon. The user base and community has grown so much that there are even live events where members get together to help each other grow, along with learning opportunities from some of the top sellers in the community.
Mr. Shugart has proven himself to be an innovator and leader in the space and doesn’t see any signs of slowing down the effort he gives every day to his customers and community to help them reach their own goals through the software solutions he creates.
